As the first edition is completely sold out I decided to do a second print with a hardcover!
As seen on CNN Travel, in the Shimbun Akahata, De Volkskrant, NRC, FD, Trouw, Residence and others.
Dimensions: 24×34 cm, 176 pages
Second edition: Pre-orders open now - shipping is expected to start 14 November (yes, just in time for Sinterklaas & Christmas!)
Adjustments: The contents and the quality of the paper will stay the same. It's just the cover that's a bit different & The essay is updated with the latest numbers but furthermore the inside will remain as is.
ISBN: 9789462264366
This will probably be a smaller edition of 250, purely for everyone who emailed me about availability. Please pre-order one to be sure you get to own your very own The Lost World copy!

The Lost World will take you on a journey through the magically desolate places of Japan. In the Land of the Rising Sun almost 8,5 million houses stand abandoned (according to the Japanese Housing and Land Survey of 2018). Even in the municipality of the busy metropolis of Tokyo, one in ten houses is empty. This was an unimaginable amount for the Dutch photographer Maan Limburg. She was so fascinated she spent months in these locations
Enjoy the images printed on high quality matte lessebo paper, with special attention spent on the red-thread open binding and the cover-design that makes you feel like you’re opening up a treasure. An essay by japanologist Josephine Smit explains the reasons behind all the emptiness – find it in the back of the book. A preface by well-known anthropologist/author Liza Dalby introduces the viewer to the subject.
Maan Limburg captured these deserted places in intimate photographs. Her keen eye allows her to go way beyond the urban exploring genre and treats you to the rich stories and human details of these locations. CNN Travel wrote about the project: "The Lost World" is more than just a photo book -- it's an homage to the country she loves and respects."
